Smashs delay-based solutions have always failed to provide a good user experience. Imagine trying to play Super Smash Ultimate and having a huge display lag, fighting games require to have instant response times to react and execute combos. No matter how good your router/internet is. The connection is bad, but it's much worse on wi-fi.
